People living with the coronavirus infection in the Italian region of Lombardy in the north of the country could be sick with different strains of CoViD-19. This conclusion was made by local virologists. According to ANSA, the strain recorded in one of the most affected by the pandemic cities - Bergamo, differs from the strain that was detected in Lodi and Cremona.

According to the director of the virology department of the San Matteo hospital in Pavia, Professor Fausto Baldanti, the first case of coronavirus in the region was admitted to the hospital at the end of February. While studies show that one of the strains of infection was active in northern Italy as early as the end of January.

“It was possible to find out thanks to the detection of antibodies in some people,” the virologist explained.
