Knights Launch Post-mortem

It’s been over a month since Knights of San Francisco launched, and so it’s time to have a look at how it went. In game development parlance, that's called a post-mortem.

First of all, the press reviews were fantastic. Knights of San Francisco was named “Game of the Week” at TouchArcade, it got 8+/10 reviews everywhere, it was called “an absolute blast” and even “visionary.”

I didn't expect this. I'm not being modest here — I genuinely thought that mobile games press won’t be interested in a game like mine at all. Just look at the games that are normally awarded such honors:

I worked with an agency to get the word out there, and I think that made a difference in actually getting the journalists’ attention. Without the help, I would have probably been ignored — if it even occurred to me to write to the press.

(Actually, that’s not entirely true. In my wildest dreams, I was hoping for someone like New York Times or WIRED to report on the game. But again, those were really wild dreams. The wildest.)
