SAN JOSE — A huge tech campus that would bring north San Jose nearly 2 million square feet of new offices and bulldoze a shuttered Fry’s Electronics store faces a major step in the city review process.

The new campus would sprout at 550 E. Brokaw Road, which for  years served as the corporate headquarters of Fry’s Electronics and most visibly, a Fry’s superstore with a theme akin to a Mayan temple.

Documents on file with the city of San Jose are now detailing some specifics about the proposed replacement of the Fry’s site.

The development would consist of a campus of office buildings that would total 1.92 million square feet, the city documents show.

“The project proposes to demolish the existing Fry’s Electronics building and surface parking lot and construct seven eight-story office towers in an office campus design,” according to the San Jose planning files.

The site is deemed to have excellent transportation access since it’s near a major interchange with Interstate 880 and fairly close to new BART stations in San Jose’s Berryessa district and Milpitas.
