Having children presents an opportunity to think about life’s philosophical mysteries. For better or worse, I connect this to what I see in successful founders that I invest in for Giant (early-stage climate, healthcare and financial inclusion) and Daft (general pre-seed). If you’re an early-stage founder (pre-seed or seed), please reach out to me at jon at giant dot vc to chat more. If you’re thinking about applying to Y Combinator, I can also help with your application. You can follow me on Twitter for more thoughts about startups and more. Please feel free to reach out with feedback unless you’re an asshole :)

My wife Gabriella and I recently debated the following question: how do you produce a child with a unique worldview? We have two kids under five and another on the way, and my wife and I both value creativity and independent thinking as core values.

In exploring this topic, I found that humans are a) pre-wired to want *not* to be unique, b) creativity often gets stamped down over time, and c) developing humans with a unique worldview takes significant non-obvious effort! Good news though, I think I found a satisfying answer if this is the path you choose.
