The privacy nightmare of Microsoft Copilot: September 20th 2024 update
I put a date in the title of this blog because news about Microsoft Copilot is constantly changing. The information in this blog is relevant to September 20th, 2024. But future Windows Updates may make my information obsolete in the near future. As information evolves, I will write new blogs about it.
All the information here about my own experiences is relevant to Windows 11 Home Edition, 2024–09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5043076). This last update was installed on my machine on September 13th.

For the uninitiated, Copilot is a way Microsoft is trying to shove Gen AI into Windows 10, and especially Windows 11. Gen AI on its own is bad enough. Our overlords intend for Gen AI to replace our thinking labour, in a capitalist world where we must labour for survival money. Gen AI is worse than talented humans at research, writing, and various forms of art. And Gen AI will demand so much electricity that it’s accelerating the ever worsening climate disaster that we’re in now.
