So I was walking around Amsterdam recently and noticed something pretty cool on a lot of doors. They have these little stickers next to the mail slots that say stuff like “NEE/JA” or “JA/JA.” Turns out, it’s a way to opt in or out of getting junk mail and free newspapers. “NEE” means no to ads, “JA” means yes to newspapers, and you can mix and match depending on what you want.

It kind of blew my mind how much it reminded me of digital privacy settings. It’s like a super old-school, physical version of GDPR but for your physical mailbox. You’re literally deciding what kinds of mail you’re okay with receiving. No ads? No problem. Newspapers? Sure, why not!
