After abandoning last year’s Google event due to the pandemic, I/O 2021 kick-started today with promising signs for Google’s Workspace product.

We now have a Smart Canvas that tightly integrates Docs, Sheets, and Slides thereby giving more flexible options for remote working. Even better, Google has smartly tied Meet and Docs, with their video calling product getting nice AI-based enhancements too.

While the first hour of the presentation was largely dominated by breakthrough technology changes like the new LaMDA (Language model for Dialogue), that’s all set to ensure more natural conversations with the machine.

We also got a sneak peek into Google’s Quantum Computing campus (Michael Pena’s cameo was the only fun bit in the otherwise tech-focused demos).

However, as soon as things moved towards Google’s beloved mobile operating system, comparisons with Apple’s iOS were bound to arise.
