You don’t know about the Adventures of Huckelberry Finn being a great anti-racist book unless you have read this other article by IG Agents 13 and 18
The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn is often accused of Racism (of the uppercase, committed sort) because of its use of that word.
These arguments have been around a long time, there are responding arguments that it is not a racist book and that Jim is treated with dignity and that we want him to get free etc. etc. I agree with these arguments.
We all know the arguments, and if you don’t — sorry, I’m not going over them again. The traditional arguments have never succeeded. I shall not repeat them.
Instead I will talk about other things, and somehow, in a meandering sort of way establish that it is not a racist book. Not really sure how I shall do this, that is part of the charm of a chaotic and meandering approach.
The thing that makes Tom Sawyer the greatest Racist book is the same thing that makes Huck Finn a great anti-racist one, that property being a relatively light touch.
