A decade from now, you won’t remember the details of the bug you worked on. You won’t remember the specifics of the complex architecture diagram that you had to figure out with your fellow engineers, piece by piece, until all the API contracts made sense and fit the evolving product requirements. You won’t remember the specific accomplishments you put on your resume.
You will remember if you worked late nights, weekends and holidays. You will remember how tired you were and how you felt when the sun set before you get the chance to go outside. You will remember the stress from looming deadlines — and how you felt when you had to miss time spent with loved ones due to an urgent on-call issue.
You will remember if your job paid you a comfortable wage, if your manager was supportive, if you were proud of what you learned and accomplished. You will remember the friends you made along the way.
