Social Class Terminology

I propose dropping the terminology of lower-, middle-, and upper-class and adopting “standard class” and “exclusive class.”

Everyone belongs to the standard class, a few also belong to the exclusive class. So Zuckerberg is even part of the standard class.

The idea here is to reduce class conflict - those in the exclusive class should be interested in improving the standard class because it’s just part of their lives too.

As society gets interested in improving the quality of the standard class, this class experiences benefits that the exclusive class just cannot compete with. I imagine a health system so efficient that even the rich opt-in for it because it’s just as good or better with fewer inconveniences.

Many of our political gridlocks stem from the definition of a middle class, a mythical social status that does not exist. We’ve neglected the lower class for decades in pursuit of a “strong middle class.” We created the home mortgage originally to help people go from lower class to middle class, but now it exists to prevent a backwards slide. We have huge portions of the country denying the fact that the rich are screwing them over because they think they are in the middle class, or at the least that one can transfer between classes. The new terminology would exist to upend this kind of bullshit.
