Scientists have created a cure for hiccups that doesn’t involve people ridiculously screaming “boo!” or holding your nose while chugging water.

The “HiccAway” a “forced inspiratory suction and swallow tool”, is an L-shaped straw with an adjustable pressure valve on one end, according to the Guardian. Sipping water out of this rigid straw will immediately cure the hiccups for most people. It costs $14.

According to a study co-authored by Dr Ali Seifi, associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and published in the Jama Network, “the results reveal that the device stopped hiccups in almost 92 percent of cases. Just over 90 percent of participants said they found it more convenient than other home remedies, while 183 of 203 participants said it gave better results.

Dr. Rhys Thomas, a consultant neurologist and epilepsy neuroscientist at Newcastle University, who was not involved in the study, told the Guardian that while the device was “likely to work and was Covid-safe as it did not require input from others,” he added: “I think this is a solution to a problem that nobody has been asking for.
