…when you pause your music it will remain paused until the next direction is audibly announced by Apple Maps. At which point, the music will unpause itself once the Apple Maps voice is done talking. Additionally, because all music apps for iOS utilize the OS-hosted audio contols, closing the music app entirely does not stop this behavior. You must uninstall the app. You may think that navigating to iOS settings and disabling that app’s ability to utilize mobile data may limit the impact. However, this simply makes it play the current song which has already been cached.
For every Apple Maps direction change dictated along your route, iOS will unpause your last audio source, and exhaust your mobile data. Additionally, because of the quiet voice of Apple Maps, this can result in Death Grips - Takyon (Death Yon) suddenly playing at comparatively FULL VOLUME at 2am in the morning as you complete a 70mi stretch of highway, and approach the last exit before the hotel awaiting you and your toddler asleep in the backseat.
Anyways, I’ve long since uninstalled all music apps over the past few years. And yes, this is a years long problem. Glazing over the quite obvious lack of pathways for real-world feedback from iOS users to Apple, this is at it’s core a very stupid, potentially costly, and user hostile behavior.
