Google is reportedly developing a new AI tool that could take over your web browser to carry out various tasks. It is also working on an agent capable of controlling your computer beyond the browser. According to a report from Reuters, this AI project, known as “Project Jarvis,” is expected to be part of Google’s next release of its Gemini large language model (LLM). However, Google isn’t the only company pursuing this kind of technology; OpenAI is also said to be developing a computer-using agent (CUA) designed to navigate the web autonomously within your browser.

The AI tool aims to simplify online research and other tasks by allowing users to give direct commands in the browser. This would eliminate the need for creating APIs or using screen recordings for the AI to access user data. Instead, users could instruct the AI to perform tasks such as opening relevant web pages, organizing search results into tables, purchasing items, or booking travel arrangements, with the AI handling everything from filling out forms to clicking buttons.
