It says Israel's security Cabinet is set to convene on Tuesday and expected to hold a vote on the agreement during the meeting.

The proposed ceasefire reportedly would be for an initial period of 60 days and includes the withdrawal of both the Israeli forces and Hezbollah from southern Lebanon. The United States is among those pushing for it.

The Reuters news agency quoted senior Lebanese officials as saying that US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to announce a ceasefire in Lebanon soon.

An Israeli Cabinet minister from a far-right party said, however, "a deal with Lebanon is a huge mistake. A historic missed opportunity to defeat Hezbollah."
