Audiobook narrators don’t have the same profiles as book authors do

There is no shortage of different ways that you can follow book authors you know and love. Amazon has a profile page for authors, and Goodreads, the largest social network devoted to books, does too. To follow an author, you typically navigate to their profile page and then click a “Follow” button. This allows you to receive updates and notifications when the author publishes new content or interacts with their audience. However, audiobook narrators are a different beast; typically, they don’t have the same social media presence. Amazon doesn’t have a profile page for them; the same applies to Goodreads and Audible.

Audiobook narrators are often difficult to find, and they rarely have the same level of presence on audiobook platforms as traditional book authors. This makes it difficult to determine what new audiobooks they have planned for the year or even for the year ahead. Narrators don’t have profiles on any major audiobook platform. The only thing you can do is click on their name, which merely lists all the other audiobooks they have narrated. It doesn’t provide a biography or offer any information about them. This includes Wil Wheaton, who narrated Ready Player One and The Martian. Jim Dale and Steven Fry, who belong to a small press, the Audiobook Creation Exchange, have profiles, but they are mainly from narrators you have never heard of before, and the profiles are not public; you must have all of the Harry Potter books and have a similar black hole.

There are only a scant few audiobook profiles that exist. Audible has a Hall of Fame, which features a mini-profile, but only for narrators who are inducted into it. If you are an independent author or one who belongs to a small press, the Audiobook Creation Exchange has some profiles, but they are mainly from narrators you have never heard of before, and the profiles are not public; you must be signed up to view them. Goodreads tends to have audiobook narrator profiles, but only for the more well-known names, and it’s not the narrators themselves who set up the profiles.
