Artificial Stupidity — And the Future of Factology
I know what you’re thinking — because I asked ChatGPT. I told it — you are now a Bot with extrasensory perception and you can read the minds of the people who read my articles — now tell me what they think when they read the title Artificial Stupidity — Ant The Future of Factology.
Anyway, I won’t tell you what it said because you already know that if ChatGPT was correct, and if it wasn’t correct who wants to hear about it? Better to let sleeping cats knead the back of the dog they’re sleeping on.
But now that we know what you think the title means — what do I think the title means? And as is often the case with things I write, I’ll know when I get to the end of this paragraph.
I think that if we invent General AI it must at times have Specific AS (artificial stupidity) because Stupidity and Intelligence are deeply intermingled.
If asshole is the failure mode of clever then it follows that idiot is the failure mode of Intelligence, which goes to show that there was something wrong in the original formulation because surely idiocy would be the failure mode of intelligence, not idiot .
