UPDATE: The boss of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has pointed fans angered by today's account linking news directly at PlayStation Support, suggesting they get in touch with Sony rather than the studio.

In a tweet, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt linked to the PSN sign-in PC support page on PlayStation.com, and said anyone with any questions should reach out to Sony using the contact PlayStation support button at the bottom of the page.

Hey everyone, in regards to account linking and questions thereto. Please reference https://t.co/dd3XnrzhFK - if you have any further questions you can reach out using the "Contact PlayStation Support" at the bottom of the page.— Pilestedt (@Pilestedt) May 3, 2024

Earlier today, Sony announced that PC players of Helldivers 2 would soon be forced to link their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to continue playing, sparking a widespread backlash across social media, forums, and Discord. Some players have threatened to quit the game over the issue, with others demanding a refund.

Confusingly, the FAQ section of Sony's support page appears to contradict this new requirement. Sony asks: "Do I have to sign in to PSN to play a PlayStation game on PC?" And it replies: "Signing in to PSN is optional when playing a PlayStation game on PC."
