When I joined Palantir in 2015, I didn’t think the company was that weird. It was my first real job, so I assumed Palantir was probably similar to other tech companies. It was only after I left that I realized how wrong I was. Palantir was fundamentally different from almost any tech company out there. That difference may be why it succeeded.

Recently, I attended a session where four Palantir alumni (plus one current Palantirian) discussed lessons learned from their time at Palantir. I had the privilege of working with all of them at one point or another [1].

The shared learnings from their time at Palantir were fascinating and reminded me of other observations I had while there and afterward. And while some specifics have changed, the overall paradigm there is much the same as it always has been.

Palantir had a very unique approach to sales. Commercial deals, in particular, came in one way – through an introduction from Karp or Karp’s team. Arda described this in more detail:
