Nanny : "Why Should Every Woman Want to Have a Child?"

Elisabeth Scott is paid to take care of the children of the wealthy in London, in Paris and now in Berlin. Babies and toddlers are wonderful, she says. But she still doesn't want children of her own. Childcare for her is a job with set hours.

ZEITmagazin ONLINE: How big is the disconnect for people when they hear that you work as a professional nanny but don’t want to have children of your own?

Elisabeth Scott: Quite big. But why should every woman want to have a child? Because that’s natures course? That’s what women are made to do? It's so old fashioned to think that way. Once you point that out, they don't really have a good argument.

ZEITmagazin ONLINE: Have you ever asked those people who try to persuade you to have children why they had children themselves?

Scott: There’s never an explanation. Most people say: "It’s just normal, that’s what you do after spending some years with someone." I ask less often. There’s no point. It’s too invasive and often the answer is the same.
