Switching to a new Android phone might soon become much quicker and more straightforward. Google has been progressively improving this process, but it remains less than ideal. Currently, users can restore their data to a new Android device through various methods — wired, wireless, or Google One backup. However, all these options tend to be slow.

A recent discovery by AssembleDebug for Android Authority reveals that Google is working on a new feature called “MultiTransportD2DTransport” for its Data Restore Tool. This feature aims to expedite the data transfer process by using both wired and wireless connections simultaneously. During the transfer, users might see a prompt asking, “Want to speed things up?” This suggests the use of both cable and Wi-Fi to maximize the transfer speed.

Additionally, Google plans to introduce a “Restore Anytime” option. This will allow users to migrate data from an old device to a new phone even after the initial setup. Currently, data transfer is only possible during the setup phase. The new feature promises seamless merging of new and existing data on the device without any loss. However, it’s important to note that this option will be limited to devices that have previously been used for data copying, and it won’t overwrite any new settings on the device.
